Award and Scenery

Last Sunday our middle daughter was part of a group recognized for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award. We are proud of her.  She established a monthly book club for 3rd through 5th graders at our church.  Attendance dropped a bit once spring sports arrived, but it was successful.  With no budget, she managed to come up with fun activities to go with books the girls chose.  They read everything from "The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" to American Girl books.  It was inspiring to hear what the other award recipients did for their projects.

Today, the oldest and I went for a walk around the lake.  We were about half the way around when it started raining.  It was coming down pretty hard toward the end.  I was glad I had a plastic bag for the camera.  Here are a few pictures.

It is so nice to have a long weekend!  Enjoy!

The Merry Month of May

We've had a few things going on this month.  My nephew earned his Eagle Scout rank.  We attended his court of honor.  He is a great guy with a bright future.  He is also graduating with plans to join the Air Force.  This would not be my choice for him, but since it is his, I will support him and wish him the best.

My thoughtful father-in-law gave me beautiful roses for Mother's Day.

Each year on Mother's Day I get new plates decorated by my daughters.  They hang in the kitchen. It is fun to watch the artwork change as they get older.  The oldest was still at college, but she came home for the summer a few days later.

Of course the end of the year brings school concerts.  Only the youngest is still in a school musical group.

May is also dance picture month.  We will be getting professional pictures, but these are a few with our camera.  Unfortunately, we don't have one of middle daughter in her beautiful ballet costume,  but we'll have a chance to get one later.

On Wednesday, we celebrated the oldest's 19th birthday.  She shared the date with my mother-in-law.  It is hard to believe that many years have gone by.  In some ways it seems like it was just yesterday.  Love you!

Middle daughter has had some interesting projects for her English class.  The students were supposed to make something that was creative and a stretch for them.  They also needed to relate it to something they'd read for class.  The fabric was pretty inexpensive and the color was perfect.  She got lots of compliments and hopefully a good grade.

Next up a Girl Scout troop reunion and a Girl Scout Gold Award ceremony.  Have a good weekend!

Art in Bloom

Last weekend we enjoyed a couple of fun events.  One was a home tour and I have no pictures of the $1.7 million home we all liked nor do I have pictures of the two mansions we went through.  One was very affordable, but the renovation would not be.  Is anyone in the market for a huge fixer-upper?  The other event was Art in Bloom at the art museum.  Since it was May Day, the girls made the May Day baskets.  Then, we looked at the beautiful and unique floral arrangements made to reflect the art.

This weekend in addition to Mother's Day we will be attending my nephew's court of honor since he has earned the rank of Eagle Scout.  Happy Mother's Day to all of you moms!
