Our Week
The oldest received an iris bouquet from the woman in charge of Aladdin (see last week's post). She will be too old to be in the drama camp next summer so this was her last and that is why she received the flowers. The irises were so pretty, but they didn't live long so it is good we got some pictures.
On the 28th we visited the college the oldest will be attending starting in August. Scary! Not the college, but that she is leaving the nest. Here is the chapel. Again, remember that we are not the best photographers and our camera could use a serious upgrade.
This is the main building. The freshman girls dorms are here along with the cafeteria and offices. It is a little older, but very nice. I hope the oldest has a fabulous time.

A famous author lived in this house as a child. We couldn't go in on the 28th, but we enjoyed looking around. A man was doing some work outside and talked to us for a while giving us some interesting detail.
This bench is famous too. You'll have to guess why! We enjoyed our day trip.
The younger two did a little more baking on Tuesday. All the girls love the chocolate chocolate chip muffins at Perkins Restaurant. They made their own version which was more of a cupcake, but then what is the difference between cupcakes and muffins? I'll have to research that.
They were yummy! Note that this project was done prior to getting dressed and groomed for the day.
More card playing ensued.
On Friday we went to the other zoo. We belong to this one so we may as well go when we can, right? I hear some rumblings of "boring" before we go, but then we go and have fun.

We love the bears, but for all of the pictures we take we don't get very good ones. Part of it is that they are behind glass. I wouldn't want that to change! Since we saw them early in the day, they were really active.

This guy (or gal?) was busy too.
It is so nice when there are no squabbles going on.
These critters are always entertaining.
This litter of pigs has grown quite a bit since the end of May. There was a new litter of 15 (sorry no picture.) That is an unusually large number of pigs for a litter. Poor mama!
When we went through the butterfly garden this butterfly landed on me and did not want to leave. I did move it to a leaf once, but it came right back. A naturalist said it was after the salt on my hands. I didn't think I was particularly sweaty.
Ok, I'll admit that I sometimes have a strange sense of humor. This sign got to me. Can butterflies read? I thought they weren't supposed to exit and that was the reason you check yourself in the mirror.
I used to have pet turtles when I was a kid before all the concerns about salmonella. They lived in a plastic bowl with a raised island in the center and a little fake palm tree. You may have had one too. Occasionally the turtles would escape, but they were ok when they were recovered. One was found hanging on a brightly colored dust mop in a closet in the back hall and one was in the garden. The longest time on the loose was two weeks. This was obviously not in the winter. Anyway, seeing turtles, even larger ones like these, always makes me nostalgic.
On the Fourth we did the usual. This was the last year of the bike, wagon, stroller parade for the youngest as she will be too old. There seems to be a trend of growing up too fast!

We interrupt this parade for some wildflowers.
There were quite a few kids in the parade, but I didn't want to post the pictures that included too many.
Even Emmy was sporting her lovely finger knit Fourth of July apparel.
